MX3 Blog #3 – Praying And Pasta
By: Kalia Kruse
Our first few days here have presented many opportunities for exploring our host cities. It has been incredible to observe culture and language different from our own while still noticing similarities to past experiences.
One new thing we did was putting together smaller bags of dry pasta for people to distribute as they do earthquake relief work. This, along with packing other supplies into the back of truck, was one bonding experience we’ve had as a team. I find that working together physically brings people together in a unique way. It was also one way of connecting with some of the workers and locals here.
After this time, we broke into smaller groups for a time of praying and listening to God. I was encouraged by the words of one of our hosts. He reminded us that when we first learn to walk, our parents are filled with joy at our attempts, even if we fall and end up crawling the rest of the way. In a similar way, God is delighted with us and the slow process of learning to listen and trust His voice. Despite this encouragement to trust God’s voice, I was hesitant to trust the thoughts. In my mind I saw tears, and as four of us walked to another location, I felt these pressing heavily on me.
I began searching the faces of those who passed us as we sat on a bench, looking for someone who might be crying. As we prayed for those around us, tears streamed down my face and I realized the tears I had seen and felt before our walk were mine. Before leaving Canada, and during our time here God has been giving me many tears for these beautiful people. It is only a small piece of how God’s heart breaks for those who do not know Him, but I am thankful for what He is teaching me through this.
I know He also takes great delight in all who walk this earth, and I am filled with joy at the realization that He loves people more than I ever could. One hymn that has come to mind recently is “To God be the Glory.” It is a reminder that the One who is worthy of praise has “opened the life gate that all may go in” which is only possible through the sacrifice of Jesus.
