SBC's statement of faith provides a summary of biblical doctrine, which is consonant with evangelical Christianity, while expressing a commitment to the historic Anabaptist interpretation of the faith.
The Bible - We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are wholly inspired by God and are the infallible and final authority in faith and life.
God - We believe in one God, existing eternally in three persons: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Creation and Humanity - We believe that the Father created all things good. Creation is made to praise its Maker. All people are created in the image of God to be stewards of creation. All have sinned, bringing about the death which is separation from God. Because of the fall all humans are enslaved to sin and in need of redemption by God in Christ Jesus.
Jesus Christ - We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is truly divine and truly human.
The Holy Spirit - We believe the Holy Spirit is sent to draw people to Christ, sanctify them in holiness, unite them in the Church and equip them with gifts of service.
Atonement in Christ - We believe Christ died the atoning death for our sins according to the Scriptures. All who believe in him are justified, sanctified and glorified through his life, death and resurrection.
The Resurrection and Ascension - We believe in the bodily resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ and in his life on high as our King, High Priest and Advocate.
Salvation - We believe that all who receive Christ in faith are born anew of the Holy Spirit to become children of the Father with power to overcome sin and live in obedience of faith that is pleasing to God.
The Church of Jesus - We believe that the Church includes all whom Christ has united in his body, who in faith turn from sin and live in step with the Spirit. The Church is where the Bible is taught and lived. The confession of faith by baptism and the sharing of the Lord's supper symbolize salvation and the fellowship of the Church. All followers of Christ are called to serve and worship in regular congregational life.
Discipleship - We believe the scriptures teach us to live like Jesus. Disciples are bound to their Saviour, witnessing to the love and holiness of God. The life that witnesses to the Kingdom of God includes peacemaking in conflict, faithfulness in marriage, speaking the truth in love, resisting evil with good, being generous with possessions, and forgiving our enemies.
The Return of Christ and Judgement - We believe Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all people, the eternal joy of the saints, and the eternal punishment of those who have rejected Christ.
The Mission of the Church - We believe each Christian is called into the mission of God to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything Jesus commands. Christ will be with his Church until the end of the age.
