SBC Partners with REES in Sexual Violence Reporting

All members of the SBC community have a right to work and study in an environment that is free from any form of Sexual Violence. As such, we are pleased to announce our participation in a province-wide initiative to address campus sexual violence in Manitoba.

SBC, along with 10 other institutions across Manitoba, has partnered with REES (Respect, Educate, Empower Survivors); a trauma-informed and survivor-centred online platform for reporting sexual violence on campus.

“We are so pleased to partner with post-secondary institutions across Manitoba that are stepping up as leaders and change-makers committed to supporting survivors and addressing sexual violence on campus,” says Mary Lobson, Founder REES.

REES provides increased reporting options for students, staff and faculty that include Anonymous Report, Connect to My Campus and Report to Police. REES also provides information about campus and community-based resources such as sexual assault centres, healthcare, and support services.

How does it work? Victims of sexual violence will be able to enter their accounts on the platform specific to the school community they are a part of, with the ability to share as much or as little information as they feel comfortable. Users can then choose to file an anonymous report, connect to their campus or file a police report.

At the end of each semester, REES will provide each institution with all information submitted in anonymous reports on its campus website. This allows schools to pinpoint trends about the type of violence happening on campus, where it’s happening and who the alleged perpetrators are. The hope for this pilot project is that incidents, ranging from cyber stalking to sexual assault, will get reported and that it will empower survivors to report offenses while maintaining autonomy in their decision-making when it comes to reporting.
