About Cornerstone
Cornerstone is a multi-generational church in Crystal City, MB with a congregation of about 270 people of all ages and an average attendance of about 200 people. We are a non-denominational church in the evangelical tradition. Our pastoral staff is currently one lead pastor and two half-time youth pastors and we are seeking to expand our pastoral team so that we can grow deeper in our roots with Jesus and wider in our reach to the community.
About the role
The role of Associate Pastor is a new position that will be developed in conjunction with the gifts of the successful candidate. As such, this job description outlines a general scope of the position and a precise job description will be developed upon hiring. The primary purpose of the associate pastor is to work with the pastors, elders and deacons to help shepherd and disciple a growing congregation into the fullness of following Jesus.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is congregational care and to “equip the saints” for ministry through discipleship. Duties will depend on the gifts of the successful candidate and may include some, but not necessarily all, of the following areas of ministry:
- Provide godly counsel and support for families, couples and individuals within our church and within our community.
- Engage in church life through weddings, funerals, baptisms, etc.
- Provide meaningful ministry for seniors through visits, bible studies or other means.
- Deliver occasional sermons and/or teaching in adult Sunday School.
- Engage in the ministry of prayer and help lead the congregation into a deeper prayer life.
- Facilitate opportunities for the congregation to be discipled in Jesus in individual or corporate settings.
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics:
- A mature believer with life experience in many areas.
- A heart for the church and a desire to shepherd and disciple God’s people.
- An ability to guide others into deeper faith in Jesus.
- Experience in pastoral, counselling or leadership roles, either through formal or informal ministry.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to be self-motivated.
Preferred Requirements
Biblical post-secondary education is desired, ideally seminary-level education, but not essential.
Location & Commitments
This is a full-time position (3/4 time might be considered if requested) with an open start date. The successful candidate would be expected to reside in or near the immediate community. Salary grid is available upon request.
