Students return from MissionX
SBC students have returned from their MissionX experiences full of stories of God's grace being worked out through them. All week the teams have been reporting in chapel about how their hearts have been transformed through the exposure they have had to working in other cultures.
Our first year students spent several days ministering in the heart of Winnipeg. The students were divided into teams who volunteered with many ministries like Inner City Youth Alive, Living Bible Explorers, Winnipeg Harvest, and Union Gospel Mission. Through their experiences they were confronted with the issues of poverty, addiction, prostitution, and homelessness. Samantha Passage was encouraged through her participation with the programs put on by Living Bible Explorers. For her what stuck out for her was the way in which the leaders were able to speak the Good News of Jesus Christ amid the chaos of these kids lives.
Our second year students were divided up into teams and dispersed to communities in northern Manitoba. The students led Bible studies, broadcasted radio programs, participated in fishing and hunting expeditions, and gathered children together for times of recreation and story-telling. It was exciting to hear how God has been at work in the lives of the students giving them a heart for the people of northern Manitoba.
Ernie Koop led a group of 8 third year students on a trip to Guatemala. While they were there, the group was exposed to the issues facing the people of Guatemala. The team spent the greater portion of a week in a Quekchi Mayan village working at the Bezalell school. Here they faced language barriers as well as some extreme weather conditions. The students returned praising God for the way in which God strengthened them throughout the three weeks that they were in Guatemala.
Many thanks to the parents and supporters who have prayed for our students throughout the past couple of weeks. Click on the links above to see pictures from the different mission experiences.
